She wasn't my cat. She wasn't even the cat of a loved one. She was the cat of my ex's ex. The girl had been mean to her enough so that the cat no longer trusted people. In fact, she had a bit of a psychotic streak and would transition without warning from calmly tolerating your affections to hissing, spitting and biting.
